I offer Rewind Trauma Therapy, a safe, effective, and non-intrusive treatment designed to reduce or eliminate the distressing symptoms of trauma.
What is Rewind Therapy?
Rewind is an internationally recognized specialized technique that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer trigger intense emotional or physical reactions. It allows the traumatic event to be “filed away” in the brain’s long-term memory as something that happened in the past, so it no longer intrudes into the present.
Unlike many trauma therapies, you do not need to share the details of the event with me. This is why it’s known as closure without disclosure. This unique aspect makes it especially helpful for individuals who feel unable or unwilling to talk about what happened. You will only be required to share some information on how you are currently impacted and possibly some context so that we can be sure it is the right therapy for you.
How Can It Help?
Rewind Therapy can lead to lasting relief from symptoms including:
It is especially effective for single-incident traumas, with most people experiencing results in just two to three sessions, though it can also be used for complex or cumulative trauma as part of a wider therapeutic process.
What It Can Help With:
4 Steps to Rewind Therapy
Rewind can be booked as a treatment on its own, or combined within ongoing therapy sessions. If considering it as a treatment on its own there will be 4 stages to the treatment.
Step 1 – Free telephone assessment (20 minutes)
Prior to the 1st session, there will be a FREE telephone assessment using an IES form (Impact of Event Scale) which provides a score to see if Rewind is appropriate for you, and to understand how you continue to be affected by your trauma now.
If Rewind is appropriate for you, the first session will be booked.
The next 3-steps of the process relate to single-event traumas (see bottom of page ** for multi-event traumas).
Step 2 – First session
The first session is an opportunity for me to understand how your trauma impacts your daily life. I will clarify what the Rewind process involves, answer any questions you may have, and offer some psycho-education on what happens in our body when we experience something traumatic or stressful.
I will then introduce you to some easy-to-learn relaxation techniques and tips that quickly calm your body when triggered, which we can use during the sessions if appropriate. You can also use these simple techniques outside of the session as and when needed.
Step 3 – The Rewind Technique
Also within the first session I will lead you through the visualisation exercise that allows your brain to reprocess the memory in a new, detached way. This part is done with eyes closed and without you needing to speak about the event.
Step 3 – Integration & Review (2 weeks later)
A second session. Is booked. During the second session we’ll check in with how you’re feeling after the process, and we’ll assess changes in symptoms. If needed, we can repeat the rewind process, many people find 1-3 sessions sufficient for single-event traumas. We will repeat the IES form and compare scores from the first one. If the score has reduced to or below the set threshold, and you are no longer suffering, your treatment is complete.
If the score has not reduced sufficiently, or you are still suffering, the technique will be repeated in this same session and a further follow-up assessment will be arranged.
Rewind can be offered as a standalone intervention or integrated with ongoing therapy. If you’re living with the effects of trauma and looking for a gentle yet powerful way to move forward—without having to relive or recount the past—Rewind may be right for you.
**Rewind can also be effective for multi-event traumas such as combat or domestic abuse, and can be dealt with individually for each traumatic event over separate sessions and as part of ongoing therapy; this can be discussed during the initial telephone assessment.
